To assemble this delicious and nutritious meal you need to defrost one of your previously saved savoury mince meal portions. (see savoury mince recipe).
You also need to peel 1 ½ lb (700g) potatoes and boil them in a pan of salted water for 20 minutes until tender.
Cottage Pie Recipe For the Mash:
- Knob of butter
- And a little milk to make really yummy mashed potato
- Cheese – about 2oz (50g) grated
- Preheat your oven to 375ºF 190ºC Gas mark 5
Cottage Pie Recipe Method:
Place the defrosted mince into an ovenproof dish and cover the mince with the mashed potato. Fluff the top with a folk. I like to make furrows with the prongs. Cover the top with the grated cheese.
Place the dish onto a baking sheet and put it into your preheated oven and cook on a moderate heat for 40-45 minutes until the cottage pie is bubbling and boiling.
The potato should be nice and brown on the top. If the top of the pie hasn‛t browned very much, you can finish browning it under a hot grill for a couple of minutes. Do make sure the meat has heated all the way through before serving.
Serve with frozen peas or mixed vegetables
